Hello, I’m Cécile (cé) Simonis.
I make books and limited edition prints, I write and illustrate stories.

I share a riso and screenprinting printing studio with C.A.Hiley, Riso des bois, from where I create all my work. We take part in fairs and events across Europe.

Hello! My name is Cécile (cé) Simonis.
I write and illustrate stories, make artist books and limited edition prints

I’m Belgian and Scottish and I currently live in the woods of the south of Belgium where I share a riso studio with C.A.Hiley, Riso des bois 

I love making my own books on the riso machine: I make graphic poetry and short illustrated stories from beginning to end in the studio.
I also like working with screenprinting and gouache and writing longer stories. My work is always hand drawn and fully human made.


When I’m not drawing, I love walking in the forest, swimming and making up silly songs.

My work has received several prizes and awards.
My graphic short story 'The Return' was shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards 2021 and my book ‘My Brass Band’ has been highly commended the 2022 edition.
I was artist in residence in Oksnes in the Vesteraalen archipelago in Norway with AiRV in 2022, and at Inspace (Edinburgh) in 2020 and Planet Labs (Berlin) in 2021 for art+science residencies.

I have taught illustration in places such as Edinburgh College of Art and the National Museum of Scotland.
